Today (6/28) is the 1st Quarter Moon of the current lunar cycle. The 1st Quarter moon represents a crisis of action. It’s a point at which it’s time to commit to intentions you’ve considered during the week since the New Moon and take some sort of action towards them.
The New Moon Solar Eclipse was in the sign of Cancer—the sign of house, home, maternal energy, family, ancestry, roots, and both the physical and spiritual/intuitive gut. It’s a flowing, easy, comforting, nourishing energy when it’s healthy and balanced. It can also be extremely protective and emotional. How you may have felt it is likely to be connected to where it landed in your chart personally. Nonetheless, many people likely connected with the themes listed above. It’s been a time for caring for oneself, for finding comfort, for resting, and finding ease.
Under this 1st Quarter Moon, what are the actions you feel moved to take? Libra is the sign of partnership and contracts, but equally important for the current moment, Libra is the sign of justice—as in balance, equity, and the scales. Libra, ruled by Venus, tends towards connection first. But it’s also the only sign represented by an inanimate object. Libra is the sign of the equal offender. It’s an intelligent, intellectual, sophisticated energy – the little black dress of the Zodiac. Therefore, the action you feel called to take (or that would be most beneficial for you to take over the next few days) may not be massive. Perhaps you feel called to focus on a particular idea. Perhaps you feel called to shift a relationship (even if only in your head). Perhaps you feel called to reach out to someone, connect, or explore ways of forging justice.
This is also the mid-point between last week’s Solar Eclipse and next week’s Lunar eclipse. Normally, this would be the mid-point in the season, but we’ve had two eclipses so far already. This does mark the halfway point between the two eclipses of this season that exist on a single axis, so today and the next couple of days could feel like the tipping point. Whatever opened up for you under the solar eclipse is likely to forge some sort of culmination and/or ending under the lunar eclipse—which I’ll discuss further in another post dedicated solely to that.
The secret under this First Quarter lunation and through this week is to follow the path of least resistance, but also your gut. The Cancer/Capricorn axis is an axis of feeling safe to express your emotions and trusting them, regardless of how irrational they may seem or how uncomfortable they may make you feel. When your emotions speak, believe them. When they change, believe them again and still. This upcoming week is a little unwieldy and it can be easy to get off track. Take care of your physical and emotional guts and follow them at all costs!

Today, Mars also moves into his home sign of Aries, where he’ll stay until the beginning of 2021. This can bring about action, drive, and warrior-like energy. It can also bring about anger and violence. Mars joins Chiron—the wounded healer. Chiron represents one’s most significant wounds and trauma, as well as one’s greatest capacity for healing. Chiron in Aries represents wounds and trauma related to identity. Mars and Chiron in Aries together can represent trauma-driven pain, anger, and even violence. Alternatively, it can give people the drive to heal their own pain and trauma. It’s likely to spark a little bit of both over the remainder of the year.
Tuesday, Jupiter and Pluto will make their second of three conjunctions in Capricorn this year. The last one was in mid-March, close to the Spring Equinox (also the season initiated by Aries) and the full moon in Libra (the sign opposing Aries). The Aries/Libra axis (being activated by the Moon and Mars) and the Cancer/Capricorn axis form a cross and they’re the 4 signs that initiate the 4 seasons. Think back to what was happening around the Spring Equinox. Were there any significant events or interactions during that time? If so, whatever arose might return to you under the influence of this conjunction, which will still be almost exact under the influence of the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn.
Pluto is the lord of the underworld. He dredges things up from the murky waters and imbues what he touches with a unique form of internal power. Jupiter is the great benefic, the god of expansion. He brings luck and good fortune to what he touches. But sometimes, he just magnifies things. When the two come together, it can mean that transformation feels magnified or that transformation in the house Capricorn inhabits could receive luck or assistance. In any case, you can expect things to change at a very deep level. How this transit will affect you depends on where it falls in your chart, but generally speaking, Capricorn is the sign of paternal energy and patriarchy, political systems, governance structures, and legitimizing authorities. So, this transit points to a strong focus on and deep transformation of these aspects of our lives, individually and collectively.
On Wednesday, also in Capricorn, Saturn will return to his Earth-sign home for one more 5-and-a-half-month stint until he returns to Aquarius for a couple of years. Saturn is the master, the guru, the emperor of the Zodiac. He allows you to master yourself and your life by imposing limits and challenging you to find your own greatness. He is always tough. Alternatively, if you meet his challenges, he will gift you with that which can never be taken from you. Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter in Capricorn simultaneously represent a major transformation of Capricorn energy—externally in the world, as well as internally within each of us.
Remember – every single person has every single energy and sign somewhere in their chart.
All of this energy will lead us into the lunar eclipse in Capricorn on Saturday or Sunday (depending on your location)—about which I’ll post a separate article. So – this is a big week for Cardinal (initiatory) energy and signs. If you have a lot of energy in Aries, Cancer, Libra, and/or Capricorn, you’re likely to feel it. But, wherever you have Capricorn in your chart is really where you’re likely to feel it the most. See below to see which area of your life will be affected most.
